As your pet enters the adjustable range of the Electronic SmartDoor, The SmartKey transmits a signal so that the SmartDoor "detects" the SmartKey and unlocks automatically - much like your car unlocks when you press the "open" button on your transmitter. The range is adjustable up to 3 feet (fast-moving pets need 3 feet, slower pets can have a shorter range to be sure no other animals slip in with them)
After your pet passes through the Electronic SmartDoor, the door will lock automatically.
Radio Frequency key does not require line of sight direction. As long as your pet is in the range you have selected, the door opens. Collar key works even if obstructed by dirt.
Petsafe Patio Dog Doors utilize a tall, transparent panel that fits into your existing patio door frame. It has a flexible pet door in the bottom which the pet uses to come and go from the house.
No need for cutting or drilling. Just insert the panel on one side of your patio door opening and slide the existing door up to it for closure. The pet comes and goes through the bottom. You come and go between the insert and your existing door.

The 96" patio pet door door is designed to fit into an UNUSUALLY TALL patio door, regardless of the height of the dog.
